The Rhode Island Weatherization Field Guide says walls with live knob-and-tube anywhere in the scoped wall cannot be insulated under the program and says active K&T testing must be performed by a licensed Rhode Island electrician.

The same guidance says the Rhode Island Weatherization Assistance Program does not allow insulating over knob-and-tube wiring in attics.

Plan electrical work first

If active wiring is found, determine whether it should be decommissioned or replaced before the insulation project proceeds.
