Current code edition
Rhode Island's Building Code Commission says the state's electrical code incorporates the 2023 National Electrical Code, effective December 1, 2025, together with Rhode Island amendments.
Existing conditions are property-specific
The fact that old wiring exists does not by itself tell you what alterations are required. The scope of new work and the existing condition need to be evaluated together.
Providence inspections
The Providence Electrical Division is the local authority overseeing electrical work through permits and inspections required by law.
